Special considerations or risks: This treatment is contraindicated among individuals without a gallbladder or who have a history of sphincter of Oddi problems, pancreatitis, alcohol abuse, alcohol addiction, who drink more than 3 alcoholic drinks a day, or have severe liver problems. |
Most common side effects: : Constipation is most common. Severe abdominal pain from sphincter of Oddi spasm or acute pancreatitis is a rare but potentially serious side effect. |
Recommendation: ACG suggests eluxadoline for overall symptom improvement in IBS-D patients who do not have a listed contraindication. |
